The no-confidence motion will be discussed on Thursday i.e. August 10, the last day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply at 4 pm. After that voting can happen. For a majority, there should be more than 50% of the members present in the house.
The BJP has 303 members in the Lok Sabha. Including allies, the figure is 333. YSR, BJD, and TDP have also pledged support. Congress has 51 members. Including the INDIA coalition, the number of MPs is 143.
This is the second no-confidence motion against the Modi government. The first was brought by the Telugu Desam Party on 20 July 2018. After 12 hours of discussion, the Modi government got 325 votes. The opposition got 126 votes. No-confidence motion has been brought 27 times so far. The first proposal was brought against the then PM Nehru government in 1963 after the China War.
