Udaipur Panchayat Election Dates Revised: No Voting on Dhanteras, Check the New Schedule

Udaipur: The schedule for the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections in Rajasthan has been revised, bringing an important change for voters in Udaipur district. The election dates have been shifted, and voters will now not have to cast their votes on Dhanteras.

The State Election Commission has issued a revised election programme for all three phases of the Panchayati Raj elections. The changes have also been implemented in Udaipur, where the elections will be conducted in three phases.

The revised schedule was announced by State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh in Jaipur.

Voting Dates Changed in the Third Phase

One of the key changes concerns the third phase of the elections.

Under the revised schedule, voting for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members will be held on November 3, while voting for Panch and Sarpanch posts will take place on November 5.

Earlier, voting for Panch and Sarpanch posts in the third phase was scheduled for November 6. Since November 6 falls on Dhanteras, the Election Commission has now moved the voting date to November 5.

The change is expected to provide some relief to voters and local administration, as Dhanteras is an important festival and one of the busiest days during the Diwali season.

No Public Voting on Dhanteras

While there will be no public voting for Panch and Sarpanch posts on Dhanteras, the election process will not come to a complete halt.

Up-Sarpanch elections will be conducted on Dhanteras, but these elections are different from the general voting process.

The Up-Sarpanch is elected by the elected Panchs themselves. In other words, the general public does not directly vote for the Up-Sarpanch.

After the Panchs are elected, they collectively choose the Up-Sarpanch through the prescribed election process.

What This Means for Udaipur Voters

For voters in Udaipur district, the most important thing to remember is that the Panchayati Raj election schedule has been revised.

Those eligible to vote for Panch and Sarpanch positions in the third phase will now vote on November 5 instead of November 6.

Similarly, voting for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members will take place on November 3.

With the revised dates, voters are advised to check their polling details and make sure they are aware of their polling date before heading to the booth.

The change is particularly significant because the earlier schedule had placed voting for thousands of Panchayats on Dhanteras, a major festival day when many families are traditionally busy with shopping and religious celebrations.

Revised Third-Phase Schedule at a Glance

ElectionRevised Date
Zila Parishad & Panchayat Samiti MembersNovember 3
Panch & SarpanchNovember 5
Up-SarpanchNovember 6 (Dhanteras)

The revised schedule means that Dhanteras will no longer be a day for public voting in these Panchayati Raj elections. Instead, the day will be used for the election of Up-Sarpanchs by the elected Panchs.

For residents of Udaipur’s rural areas, the change is an important one to note as the election process moves closer to the voting dates.
